SS23 LOOKBOOK
Rooted in the classics, but executed with eclecticism in mind, the Carhartt WIP Spring/Summer 2023 collection traverses arid expanses and volcanic trails; port-side prep staples and the brand’s own archive. The result is subtle, cohesive – but upon closer inspection, rich with detail, whether through graphics, fabrics, or color scheme.
As ever, the collection is built around core items, made from hardwearing fabrics like Dearborn Canvas, denim and twill. Offset by contrasting triple stitch detailing, items like the Michigan chore coat in indigo denim take inspiration from the clean lines and loose, easy silhouettes of archival Carhartt WIP imagery, as well as elements of mid-90s NYC and hip hop’s imposing double-denim ensembles from the same era. Meanwhile, a burst of vibrant blue renders other iconic styles such as the Detroit Jacket with a sense of freshness.
More likely to be found tearing across dusty planes on quadbikes than horseback, the new west serves as the inspiration for a series of graphic prints and lightweight summer shirts. These appear alongside more substantial items such as the Darper Jacket – a modern take on a classic ranch coat, with a lightweight cotton poplin fabrication and a corduroy collar that nods to archetypal Carhartt WIP garments.
A harbor-side expression of Ivy League styles lends the collection an expansive feel, as it continues to seek out different areas to explore. This results in a mix of functional water-resistant outerwear, loose-cut pants in airy fabrics capable of billowing like boat sails, and a series of motifs that draw from maritime flags, applied across t-shirts, shirts and knitwear.
The collection is rounded out by understated, functional items that take their hazy color palette from lumen flower prints. These include silhouettes that subtly reference outdoor gear, but are executed in soft, cotton fabrics.

fdecarlo@carhartt-wip.comAbout Carhartt WIP
Established in 1994 by Edwin Faeh, Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress) develops its own collections based on original Carhartt workwear. The brand combines authentic adaptations of these robust American archetypes, while engaging with the subcultures that have embraced it. This, in turn, has seen Carhartt WIP place itself in a new context and bring forth its own classics.
Carhartt WIP opened its first store in London in 1997 and today operates over 80 locations worldwide. It also has its own skate team and music department, while supporting a slew of artists and releasing various in-house publications.
