Les Rencontres d'Arles: Carhartt WIP partners with BAÏTA for Opening Week

This year marks Carhartt WIP’s first appearance at Les Rencontres d'Arles, the world-renowned photography festival now in its 57th edition. Partnering with culinary agency BAÏTA, Carhartt WIP will present an exhibition during the festival’s first week, from July 6–12, with an opening event on July 8.
Hosted in BAÏTA's Le Grand Snack-Bar pop-up, the exhibition offers a first look at the upcoming publication HANDOVER by Finnegan Travers and Fergus Riley – both previous Carhartt WIP collaborators. HANDOVER is a visual conversation between the photographic communities of London and Manchester, bridging the geographical, cultural, and professional distance between the two cities. Bringing together 17 British photographers, it celebrates photography as a tool for connection, dialog, and community. The book is set for release in early September, published by Pig Iron Works.
The exhibition is part of OFF Arles, a wider program running in parallel with the official Les Rencontres d'Arles lineup. In keeping with BAÏTA's long-running pop-up concept, now in its third year, the space is open to all, with continuous food service from noon to midnight. The two rooms are walk-in; the veranda overlooking the Arènes d'Arles is by reservation only.
For this Grand Snack-Bar edition, BAÏTA has entrusted the kitchen to Ella Aflalo, a Top Chef alum who made her name in Marseille with Yima, and drew attention through her residencies at the Drum Café at LUMA Arles. Shaped by her roots in the south of France, the Levant, and North Africa, her cuisine balances bold flavors and refined execution.
The exhibition’s opening event takes place on Wednesday, July 8, with Travers and Riley in attendance, presenting advance copies of their book HANDOVER alongside the photo exhibition. Music comes from Parisian duo Pureblast, followed by a back-to-back set from Cyrus Goberville and Low Jack until midnight.
A collaborative t-shirt featuring an image from HANDOVER will be on sale at the space throughout the week.

fdecarlo@carhartt-wip.comAbout Carhartt Work In Progress
Established in 1994 by Edwin Faeh, Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) develops its own collections based on original Carhartt workwear. The brand combines authentic adaptations of these robust American archetypes, while engaging with the subcultures that have embraced it. This, in turn, has seen Carhartt WIP place itself in a new context and bring forth its own classics.
Carhartt WIP opened its first store in London in 1997 and today operates over 80 brick and mortar locations worldwide. It also has its own skate team and music department, while supporting an array of artists and releasing various in-house publications. Since 2010, Carhartt WIP has worked with a number of like-minded collaborators, including A.P.C., Converse, Fragment Design, Junya Watanabe, Nike, Underground Resistance, and Motown.
